When your story starts in high school, what better place to revisit for your engagement session than right back where it all began? Kayla and Steve both grew up in Glen Rock, New Jersey and were high school sweethearts! After a short break in college, they realized they couldn’t stay apart. Ten years later and they’ve built a beautiful life together living in Hoboken, NJ. Kayla works in NYC at a PR agency, while Steve is a golf professional at Tuxedo Club. No, Kayla does not golf, which is usually the follow-up question, but she loves that Steve does what he is so passionate about. Likewise, Steve can’t exactly explain what Kayla does day-to-day but is impressed with her success, and sometimes her glamorous perks! They love the visit new bars and restaurants in their area, but they definitely value a good night in with some Seamless and Netflix! Kayla says, “And every once in a while, we skip the “meal” portion of the date and just share a jumbo popcorn (with extra butter) at the Hoboken movie theater!” Sounds like my kind of date night. 🙂
On the 11 year anniversary of their first kiss, Kayla woke up to red roses accompanied by a beautiful love letter, and thought this is sweet, but wondered if they were ever going to get married! Later that evening, Steve picked Kayla up in his father’s red Mustang and took her out to dinner – two details that mimicked their first date. After a lovely evening, Kayla once again thought it would never happen and returned to her parent’s house discouraged. BUT, both their parents were waiting as Steve got down on one knee in front of their family and asked for Kayla to marry him. Champagne and dessert followed, with tons of calls and boomerang re-enactments. 😉 Such great planning, Steve!!
For their engagement session, we shot all around their hometown in Glen Rock! We hit up all of the key places, like the Thielke Arboretum, the rock, the intersection of the streets they grew up on, and their high school! The principal even updated the marquee out in front of the school to be personalized for Kayla & Steve. These two high school sweethearts are so adorable and fun together. I loved revisiting all these key parts of their story. It was perfect! 🙂 I am so excited for their wedding in March!
