Katherine & Brandon’s winter West Point engagement session was so much fun! It didn’t even matter that our fingers and toes were a little numb because these two made this session a blast! They were up for anything including ditching their coats, scaling hilly, icy paths, and making it a joyful experience! I am so excited about how these photos turned out. We got so lucky to have the perfect light dusting of snow cover West Point that morning. Sometimes for winter sessions, it’s cold but there isn’t necessarily anything to “show” for it, so having that pretty layer of snow MADE the wintry look! I had the best time with Katherine & Brandon, and cannot wait to share all these photos! First, I’ll share a little piece of their love story with you!
I asked Katherine how she and Brandon first met, and she gave me the inside scoop. She told me, “Brandon and I met in the Army at the unit we worked in located in WA. His first day at the unit was on Halloween and our mutual friend played a prank on him and told him that everyone wears a costume to work. Wearing a costume was normal for Brandon since his previous units allowed costumes on Halloween. So on Day 1, Brandon makes his first impression by showing up to work dressed in a full Where’s Waldo costume. He was pretty easy to find in the sea of green camouflage! It was definitely a conversation starter when we met that day!”
Katherine shared with me one thing she loves about Brandon, and it was “I love how supportive Brandon is of my goals and my career. He’s willing to move to any corner of the world that the Army sends me to.”
Their first date turned into a very long happy hour excursion! As Katherine tells it, “Brandon asked me to get dinner at a really cool place that was an old, antique hotel repurposed into multiple bars and restaurants (all different themes!). I wanted to make it more casual, so I asked him to do happy hour there instead. We ended up staying about 5 hours together just talking and going to the different bars. It was SO much fun. Best “happy hour” ever. :)”
You’ve got to hear how Brandon proposed! It’s such a good story! Katherine told me, “We loved exploring Pacific Northwest hikes so Brandon wanted to propose to me at the top of a trail at Mt. Rainier National Park with a spectacular view of the mountain. The day of the proposal, the area was packed with fog and there was absolutely no view of Mt. Rainier. Despite this, he asked me to “take a photo” and popped the question! He recruited friends to hike ahead of us to secretly take photos and give us champagne after I said yes! Later that night, we went to dinner and he surprised me by flying our families in to celebrate!”
Kat & Brandon, thank you so much for making this session an absolute blast! You guys are the best. I am so grateful for you both braving the cold and having fun with the shoot! I am already counting down the days til your West Point Wedding in May! I can’t wait!! Sending the biggest hug and all my love! xoxo
