Their Session: Mohonk Mountain House, New Paltz, NY
I absolutely love shooting at Mohonk Mountain House! It’s such a dreamy location, with so many photogenic little spots! When Dorothy reached out about taking their engagement photos at Mohonk, I was so pumped! We ended up with a perfect weather day, and had an absolute blast exploring the gorgeous grounds. We had so much fun hopping around to some iconic spots like Skytop Tower, the garden, and the lily pond!
Dorothy and Charlie are such naturals in front of the camera, and totally crushed it for their engagement session! They were down for every posing idea I threw their way, no matter how crazy. (You guys are the best!)
Before I share some of my favorite shots from their engagement session, let me tell you a little more about Dorothy & Charlie’s story!
Their Love Story
Dorothy & Charlie first met randomly 5+ years ago at The Brass Monkey, a bar in Manhattan, when they were both separately out with their groups of friends. One of Charlie’s friends stumbled into Dorothy and her friends and spilled one of their drinks. Charlie stepped in to apologize and offer to replace the drink. Then, Dorothy and Charlie continued talking until the end of the night when Charlie asked for Dorothy’s number. And as they say, the rest is history! 😉
Want to hear how Charlie popped the question? Dorothy told me, “I went for my usual long walk along the east river with my sister Emily (which Charlie arranged) and when I came back, the whole living room was set up to look like a fancy restaurant with nice tablecloths, candles, rose champagne, romantic music and he proposed (after I washed my hands and took off my ankle weights)!”
Their typical date nights pre-covid consisted of going out to new restaurants to order wine and food to share. Then going back home to watch a show or movie. These days, they spend their date nights cooking HelloFresh meals together! And I love that they celebrate burger Friday every Friday night! (A tradition I can totally get on board with!) 😉
When I asked these two to share one thing they love about each other, Dorothy said, “Charlie is the most genuinely kind person I’ve ever met. He’s so selfless and always puts others before himself.” Charlie said, “Dorothy is always thinking about everyone else and cares more about the people she loves than anyone I’ve met.”
