When the love of your life is also your best friend, you know you have something incredible. When I asked Ashley to tell me more about her relationship with Kyle, she said, “Building a strong friendship has been the key to our love story because before anything, he is my best friend,” which was when I knew this couple would be such an amazing duo to work with. Ashley and Kyle met in college at University at Buffalo where they were both engineers, but they didn’t meet in the classroom. They actually met during their spring semester at Kyle’s fraternity event; their friendship grew from that moment on. Together, they love to order big sushi dinners in at home or going to new, local restaurants as long as they have calamari as an appetizer!
When they asked me to shoot their engagement session at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY, I was over the moon excited to visit one this beautiful location. It’s such a gorgeous area with so many different locations to photograph at. Mohonk Mountain House is a special place for Kyle’s family, as they have been visiting since he was a baby! His mom even worked there as a teenager. Ashley said, “I have joined his family the past 3 years and it has since become our place. So when he decided we should take a mini-vacation to the resort I agreed. On our first day before dinner, we walked up to the top of the mountain (like every other time we go) and he found the most perfect spot to propose.” Amazing!!
Being able to photograph these two transition from in-love best friends to husband and wife was such a beautiful experience. The forecast was gloomy leading up to the wedding day, but it completely cleared up before the wedding day began! We had the most perfect day without a drop of rain. Their venue, Basking Ridge Country Club, was beautiful, and the team of vendors was amazing, including gorgeous florals by Lodi Flowers, incredible hair and makeup by the talented Michelle Elise Artistry, AND Ashley’s top-notch DIY crafting! I was seriously so impressed by everything these two had planned for their big day. Some of my favorites were the cute pumpkin patch place cards, really fun confetti bridesmaids photos, the stunning sunset portrait views, toast glasses that were used 65 years ago at Kyle’s grandparents’ wedding, the broach from Ashley’s nanny and the photo of her grandfather that was tied into her bouquet. Everything came together perfectly to create the most amazing wedding day for Ashley and Kyle. I am so excited to share this wedding day with you!
