Okay, this wedding is a reallllllly special one, so get ready! My sweet friend and this stunning bride, Yumi, is absolutely amazing. She is a talented photographer (check her work out here) and one of my go-to second photographers, so I get to work with her a bunch while shooting weddings. This time, though, I got the be a part of HER big day and photograph her and Eric tying the knot at The DeBruce in New York! I am SO thankful they trusted me with photographing their special day – it is such an honor to photograph a friend and fellow photographer’s wedding.
Yumi and Eric are so easygoing and joyful. They were literally up for anything. We had the craziest weather –a rainy day that turned hot and sunny, turned cold and windy, and then back to sunny, then cloudy, and rainy again, and so on… it was nuts! And somehow, none of it fazed these two in the slightest! We got SO many portraits with all of the varieties of weather imaginable including the MOST beautiful, brightest rainbow I have EVER seen in my life. Seriously, it was magical. I may or may not have pulled Yumi and Eric away from the adorable VW Bus photobooth just to snap a few pictures of them with it, because seriously…it was unbelievable. Thankfully, they were down to slow dance, run, and smooch in the rain underneath the most gorgeous rainbow. 🙂 All my photographer dreams came true.
I can’t even begin to mention ALL my favorites from this day, because there are too many. But just to highlight a few in addition to the whimsical rainbow, the emotional outdoor ceremony, the incredible florals, Yumi’s second outfit – a gorgeous romper she changed into during the reception, and all the little details that made this day perfect for Yumi & Eric.
Eric and Yumi met through their bosses. Her former boss is married to his current boss and they met on a trip to London. She was going with her boss to London Fashion Week and Eric was doing some research and development on a new hotel with his boss. They, of course, stayed in the same place and had a whirlwind of a trip full of delicious food and plenty of wine! Their bosses gave a heartfelt toast during their reception, which was very fitting seeing as they were there for the start of this sweet love story!
Yumi told me that she had “been waiting for this proposal for over a year! He came home with me to Tokyo this past January and proposed to me at a hot spring in Hakone. I didn’t want anything public – so this hot spring in the mountainside (literally in the middle of nowhere) was perfect!” Ugh, must have been so magical, just like their love! Go take a look at their Bear Mountain engagement session we shot last spring!
Yumi and Eric, your day was perfectly unique to you two and just the best celebration of your love. I am so so thankful for your friendship and the way you two love each other. It makes for some pretty adorable photos! 🙂 What an insanely perfect and special day. I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!! Congrats! XOXO
